Not only do we get Samuel L Jackson and Philip Seymour Hoffman, but we also get Gil Bellows. Not a huge name but was fantastic as Tommy in Shawshank Redemption.

So do these kinds of cases stop appearing on the show after SVU becomes a thing, or is it just that SVU deals only with those cases and this iteration of the show can deal with anything, basically?

Watching old TV is so weird. Philip Seymour Hoffman and Samuel L. Jackson in the same episode and it's not even a big deal! Just a rando perp and a rando lawyer.

I enjoyed the reversal with starting at the trial and bringing in a dismissal. Some of the evidence after felt contrived and a lot left out at the end.

More before they were famous with an up and coming Samuel L Jackson and a baby faced Philip Seymour Hoffman. On top of those appearances, this episodes reverses the normal format, with trial first and investigation second.
